Fall Festival

On Saturday, October 4, the Roanoke Valley campus held its annual Fall Festival. The weather was spectacular, and the National Eagles Toastmasters’ Club did a great job of organizing and running a terrific event.
Event ChairSaifur Rahman (National graduate and current staff member in the College’s file room) along withstudentsPeggy Randall, Linda Bey, David Burnette, Ralph Stewart and Mary Watkins, and staff members Betty Johnson, Cathy Fortune, Vianne Greek, Marilyn Buschor, Matt Poole, M.J. Williams, Ken Redheffer and Ben Graham were instrumental in making the event a success.
The entire National College community and the surrounding neighborhood were invited to Fall Festival. Activities included face painting for children, pony cart rides by B and B’z Miniatures, a disc jockey, magician Mark Fuller, a silent auction, a yard sale, a bake sale, a pirate ship moon walk, a door prize raffle and a 50/50 raffle. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society had a table promoting their Light the Night walk, and the American Red Cross also had a table soliciting financial donations and blood donors. Refreshments included hot dogs and hamburgers, soft drinks, popcorn and old-fashioned cotton candy. Proceeds from the afternoon will benefit the United Way, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Toastmasters. A large and enthusiastic crowd attended the Fall Festival, and everyone had a great time.
SoSalem, a Roanoke Times community newspaper, reported on the festival in the weekly paper and on the website (http://blogs.roanoke.com/rtblogs/sosalem/2008/10/06/national-college-fall-festival-draws-a-crowd/).
