Free Health Care

On June 27th and 28th, students and staff from the Pikeville Campus were part of an exciting history-making community health event known as Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps (RAM). RAM is a non-profit, volunteer, airborne relief corps that provides free medical care to people in remote areas around the world.
An estimated 800 Eastern Kentuckians stood in line to receive free healthcare for their medical, dental, or vision related needs. Patient rooms, sign-in stations, and a large amount of medical and dental equipment filled a local high school. Tables of free eyeglasses, vision testing centers, and medical treatment rooms were set up in classrooms while patients waited in the hallways. Not only was this of enormous importance to the health community, but it was also a great chance for students to meet, network, and witness first-hand several basic procedures being demonstrated by the many healthcare professionals who were brought in from different areas of the United States.
At the event, student Jennifer Adkins (pictured) received new eyeglasses and a dental cleaning - both free of charge. Jennifer is a student in the medical billing and coding diploma program. She is currently working in a restaurant and says that completing her education at National College will ensure her success with a better job and better benefits.
Furthermore, the Campus displayed a well-received table of program brochures and informational flyers concerning program offerings and the upcoming 2nd Annual Healthy Fun Fair scheduled for Thursday, July 30th. Admissions Representative Leigh Ann Harris, Student Services Representative Chris Riley, and Career Center Director Donna Dye put forth their efforts by meeting numerous potential students while generating a vast amount of program interest. In addition, the Campus also attained new externship sites from the local business community while Hospice of the Bluegrass vowed to lend their support for the Healthy Fun Fair. This was RAM's second annual event for Pikeville and the lasting impression of care and concern along with the amazing potential made possible for students as well as graduates was limitless.
