Student of Many Trades

Take an ambitious student, a graduate of three programs from National College, a mother of three teenagers and a four year old, owner and operator of two local businesses, assistant manager at a local tax office; and you’ve got student Delores Forbes! Delores (pictured) came to the Pikeville Campus in June of 2004 pursuing and attaining a diploma in medical coding and billing. She re-entered in 2005 earning a diploma in the pharmacy technician program. About this same time, Delores began working at Jackson-Hewitt Tax Service in Pikeville while raising her four children. Gaining an even greater interest in achieving more, this scholarly student came back in 2006 to start and complete an associate degree in business administration-management by the fall of 2008.
Quiet natured, goal oriented, and determined, Delores started a professional cleaning service called Squeaky Clean in the summer of 2008. She owns and operates the business out of her home and supervises workers’ daily schedules and tasks. She is also co-owner of First Choice Lawn Care with her husband.
She said she kept coming back to the Pikeville Campus because of the smaller class sizes and the personal attention she got from faculty and staff. And she has done it again! She enrolled in yet another program, medical assisting, and is expected to graduate (again) in August 2009. She says her motivating factor for achievement is her family.
