Interviewing Sneak Peak

Receiving an insightful look at the interviewing process, students at the Pikeville Campus gained greater awareness of interview etiquette on November 5th as Howard Blackburn, Vice President of Human Resources with Community Trust Bank, discussed the many facets of applying for a position and speaking with potential employers. Mr. Blackburn spoke with students about being prepared, having sufficient job application information with you for an interview, and dressing for success. They listened intently as he explained what businesses look for when hiring a new employee; the many pitfalls an applicant can run into when sending resumes with errors; and incorrectly addressing employers.
Relating the subject matter even more, Mr. Blackburn discussed interviewing “do’s” and “don’ts” showing the difference between successful interviews and the ones that may cause an applicant not to receive a call back from an otherwise interested employer. The guest speaker also talked of his personal career endeavors and previous life experiences from being in the workforce. Finally, he explained the role of working in a bank and the many career opportunities currently present. As the workshop ended, a question and answer session was held. Community Trust Bank is considered to be the largest Kentucky-based Bank Holding Company according to their website: http://www.ctbi.com/about_us.html.
