Getting a Good Job

When Pikeville Campus student Mike Harris enrolled in National College to obtain his phlebotomy diploma, he also had another goal in mind: getting a good job. After enrollment, Mike quickly sought the resources of the Career Center. He met with Career Center Director Donna Dye to discuss employment opportunities and job interest.
Soon thereafter, Mike was interested in a job opportunity that became available with the Spine and Brain Neurosurgical Center of Eastern Kentucky. He submitted a resume for the available position as a laboratory technician with duties including basic lab procedures and urinalysis evaluations of patients. He was very excited about the job opportunity and hoped he would get the call. The well-prepared resume’ was faxed, and he was immediately called for an interview. The very next day, he was hired for the position at the specialty clinic and began work that week!
Consequently, Mike is currently excelling both in his studies and in his new found career success! His wife Felicia Harris is enrolled in the Pharmacy Technician program as well. Mike’s career credits not only include an outstanding work history but an impressive military record serving in the United States Army from July 2001 to April 2007, most notably from February 2005 to December 2005 when he was located in Baghdad, Iraq with the US Army as a Convoy Security Platform Specialist. In recognition of his military service, Mike has been awarded the Imagine America Military Award Program scholarship which will apply $1,000 towards his tuition.
