Community Appreciation Day

On Saturday, October 17th, the Student Activities Council sponsored a Community Appreciation Day at the Memphis Campus. The appreciation event was held for National students and their families, their adopted school Bethel Grove Elementary, and the community at large. The event was a huge success and it attracted more than 200 people.
Memphis students had an opportunity to participate in this event by showcasing their businesses. Surgical Technology student Kelly Walton, with Jamie's Cards and Gifts, and Business Administration-Management student Kendrik Bush with Bush Doors, did an outstanding job presenting their entrepreneurial ventures to the crowd. Students Rosslyn Jones, Carla Jeffries, and Cortnye Hammonds also participated by providing health screenings and enlisting participants for the campus's upcoming blood drive.
Local radio personality, Michael Davis of 95.7 FM, was on hand with prizes. For the kids, there were "spacewalks" and a clown offering face painting. Several businesses participated in the event, including: Sun Trust Bank, Home Based Business Chamber, the Health Department, Global Logistics Solutions, Planning and Preparing for College, Life Blood, Job Linc, Tryzoob Business Consulting, Kellogg's and a number of others.
Members of the Student Activities Council (SAC), the business department, staff, and student body all worked together as a cohesive team in order to promote school spirit and to insure the event was a success. SAC Advisor and Business Department Chair Patrenna Hancock said the event was a success due to the hard work and commitment of the students coupled with the care and support of the faculty and staff. "Without this type of synergy, we would not have been able to pull this off." SAC is busy planning future events and plans to make Community Appreciation Day an annual event.
