Celebrating Black History

In celebration of Black History Month and in appreciation of our culturally diverse educational community, the Lynchburg Campus held a Scavenger Hunt and “Test Your Black History IQ” contest for all students. The contest began Monday, February 9th and the winner was announced on Wednesday, February 11th by Librarian Swannie Thompson. The 15-question test required students to use their research skills by delving into history books, all found in the campus library. No computers were allowed to find the answers; rather the students were encouraged to take advantage of the library and all of the wonderful treasures that it contains. Medical Assisting student Stephanie Saunders was the first to correctly
answer all of the questions. Stephanie said she learned a lot from the contest and from the history classes she has taken with Instructor Marvin Cash. She said, “If I could, I would take more history classes because I have found them fascinating.” Stephanie won an iPod for her efforts. Day and night students participated in the celebration of Black History Month which also included announcements of Dean’s List recipients and Valentine’s Day refreshments.
