Above and Beyond

Medical Assisting student Laurie Owen was recently surprised in class (on Halloween) and awarded a Certificate of Achievement for her contributions above and beyond her classroom participation. Laurie was a shining success at the recent Future Focus Expo, the largest career and college exploration event for Virginia’s Region 2000. Students in grades 8 through 12, accompanied by their parents, came to explore companies and colleges in the community, as they prepare for their future education and career opportunities. At the National booth, Laurie joined Director of Admissions Nancy Fortune, Admissions Representatives Sharon Plyler and Kathy Estreval, Director of Health Care Education Sue Coleman, and Community Resource Coordinator Jane Kuhn to meet students and share information about National College. Laurie answered prospective students’ questions and spoke about her successful experience of learning at National. The high school students were able to truly relate to a college student who spoke about her own personal experience. Great work, Laurie!
