Celebrating Constitution Day 2009

On Thursday, September 17th, Instructor Patrick Murray gave a special presentation to students and employees about the history, meaning and future of the United States Constitution. All classes in session that day spent time in the auditorium to hear Patrick's 20 minute talk and students received a copy of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Patrick explained that the writers of the Constitution were practical men who sought to ensure free enterprise and control government power. He discussed the checks and balances mandated within the branches of legislation, and explained why one branch of government - or even the president - cannot make new laws on their own. The presentation also focused on how current legislation measures up to the Constitution's ideals, and everyone was reminded of the importance of paying attention to government proceedings and protecting this living document. Students were interested and involved, as many questions were asked at the end of each session.
