Meet the Coach

The Lexington Campus is proud of its affiliation with the ALS Society, a national agency which raises funds and works with individuals with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, destroys the nerve cells that send signals to the body’s muscles. The disease is a progressive, fatal disease which attacks the muscles used for mobility as well as breathing. Patients seldom live longer than two years past their diagnosis – which presents the ALS Society with many challenges. Community Resource Coordinator Earlane Cox developed a relationship with the local ALS Society nearly two years ago and finds that it is a rewarding endeavor for the Lexington campus.
Recently, the Society hosted a fund-raiser kick off breakfast on Thursday, July 31st. The keynote speaker was Rich Brooks (center), head football coach of the University of Kentucky. Approximately 25 corporate leaders were invited to this special event to help garner interest for upcoming events sponsored by this charity. Earlane (right) and Regional Director of Community Development Donna Stoutenborough (left) attended the event in support of the cause. Donna actually won a large framed and autographed print of Coach Brooks in a business card drawing.
