Scholarship Winner

Indianapolis student Christina Womack recently won a $2,000 scholarship from the Foundation of Surgical Technology. She was one of 200 applicants to apply from all over the country and one of 23 to win. She is the only one that received the scholarship in the state of Indiana.
I was at a place in my life where I was tired of having a job, I wanted a career! I wanted to become something that I could be proud of; do something that I enjoyed; and most of all, I wanted a career where I could help others have a better life. After I searched every path possible, I finally found what I knew was right for me. I enrolled at National College to become a surgical technologist.
I knew the road ahead was not going to be easy, but I knew this was what I had a passion for. I had a wonderful opportunity to do my externship at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. It was quite a learning experience. I had the chance to scrub in with great doctors, and my preceptor was an excellent teacher. I learned everything from ortho to neuro, and I even got the chance to do two craniotomies (which I was told doesn't happen very often). I enjoyed every moment of being a surgical technologist. I am always learning, and it's definitely not your typical nine-to-five!
