Blossoming Career

Shannon Shockey (pictured), a 2002 graduate of the business administration-management program from the Harrisonburg Campus, has successfully combined her training into an enjoyable career. She previously worked as a licensed optician but became interested in more than just eyeglasses. She decided to enroll in National because she wanted to get into management.
After she earned a management degree, Shannon was hired by Costco to work in their optical department; a job she doesn't think she would have qualified for without a degree. Furthermore, in July 2007, Shannon was offered a sales supervisor job at LensCrafters in Harrisonburg where she was able to combine all her talents and put them to use for a highly-recognized, worldwide company.
Shannon blossomed in the new environment and was quickly promoted to Retail Manager and is now General Manager. She credits National with providing the fundamental knowledge and confidence she needed to take her career to the next level of success.
Campus Director Jack Ekey was an instructor when Shannon attended. She said she often thinks of the advice he gave her in one of her classes: "You have to think outside the box." Shannon says his advice is serving her well during the current slow economic times, and she is confident that both the company's future and her own professional future are bright.
