Two National Graduates, Two New Medical Careers

Blue Ridge Family Medicine and Laser Aesthetics, located in Staunton, Va., is the family medical practice of Dr. Charles Weisman. It's also the employer of two of the Harrisonburg campus' fine graduates: Vanessa Scott (left) and Tamika Johnson (right).
Vanessa graduated in February 2009 as with a dual major as a medical assistant and pharmacy technician. Vanessa had obtained her Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) designation, she had a positive and persistent attitude, and most of all great patient care skills based on her pleasant personality, knowledge and skills gained in her classes at National, and her externship experiences at Emergicare in Waynesboro. In mid-April, she found a job at Stuarts Draft Family Pharmacy; then, less than a week later, she interviewed for and was offered a job as a Medical Assistant at Blue Ridge Family Medicine. As a Medical Assistant, Vanessa primarily assists one of the two nurse practitioners in the family practice. She has also continued to work part-time at the pharmacy, mainly on weekends. Vanessa loves both of her jobs and knows she would not be where she is today without her degree from National College.
Tamika originally began her work with Blue Ridge Family Medicine as a phlebotomy extern during the Spring 2009 term, the term of her graduation. Because she had done such a good job and has a wonderful way with patients, the practice offered her a job. Not only does she serve as the primary phlebotomist for the entire practice, she is being trained on-the-job as a medical assistant by Dr. Weisman and is currently enrolled in the medical assisting degree program at the Harrisonburg Campus. She, too, loves her job and gives credit to the knowledge and skills she has gained through her training at National College.
