Moving Up

Harrisonburg graduate, Cassandra Rios (pictured), is proud of her job as Human Resources Generalist at Sysco, a nationwide food distribution organization. She loves her job and knows she probably would not have it without her Administrative Office Professional degree from National College. Cassie worked several years as a human resources assistant for Virginia Poultry Growers Corporation supporting the human resources professional staff.
When it became clear that she would not be able to move up in the human resources field without further education, Cassie enrolled at National College in the Administrative Office Professional associate degree program. She started her degree in 2005, taking classes part-time. In July 2007, when she was nearing completion of her program, she applied for a human resources associate position at Sysco and got the job. And in November 2007, she earned her degree.
Cassie has since been promoted to her current position as an HR Generalist. She primarily handles payroll, a skill which she learned in her accounting classes at National. In addition, she also assists the human resources manager with other department functions, such as recruitment and selection. Cassie hopes to build a career in the Human Resources field. She knows she will need at least a bachelor’s degree, and she intends to re-enroll at National when the time is right.
