Anticipating a Bright Future

Harrisonburg student Howard Simpson has worked himself into a good situation. In the Information Systems Engineering program, Howard is a dedicated student who takes his school work seriously. In the fall of 2008, he contacted Mark Bales, founder and president of LCC Computers, seeking an externship where he could use the skills he learned in the classroom.
LCC provides complete computer repair services, turnkey network solutions for the business community, and computer and network maintenance services. Mr. Bales agreed to allow Howard to work as an extern at LCC, earning college credit while gaining practical experience.
In the months since he began his externship, Howard has learned a great deal. He has visited businesses on site to work on servers, routers, and other networking issues; and he has built virtual servers and has worked on servers from the remote desktop. He has also learned the repair side of the business, fixing problems with hard drives, network cards, monitors, virus infestation and related hardware and software issues.
Mr. Bales says Howard has done a great job. The company is continuing to grow, and they intend to keep Howard, employing him full time as soon as he graduates. With his sound fundamental knowledge gained in his classes and his increasing real-world skills, Howard can anticipate a bright future in his chosen career. An externship has made all the difference.
