A Successful Career Change

Stacy Burkett is a woman with an impressive background. She has considerable work experience as a long-distance truck driver, a district sales representative, and working in shipping and receiving in manufacturing environments. But she knew she could do even more.
Stacy was always interested in computers. In 2007, she enrolled at the Harrisonburg Campus in the Information Systems Engineering program hoping to find a career that would allow her to use her mind and creativity as much or more than her physical skills. She’s currently in her final term and has worked very hard for the associate degree. She will graduate with high honors and has already earned certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), a highly prized and nationally-recognized designation.
The story gets even better: Stacy has just gotten a job in her field as a Technical Support Representative with Shentel, a diversified telecommunications company. Her duties are to provide technical support to customers for internet, cable TV, and telephone service. Right now, her job is part-time, but her new company has told her that there is room for growth to full-time and room for advancement within the company.
Stacy has plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in IT and obtain more Microsoft certifications while she works at the same time, gaining on-the-job knowledge. She’s excited about her new job and appreciates her instructors and others at the college who helped her change her life.
