Excellent Work Experience

When Carolyn Hurt finished her Medical Office Specialist diploma in May 2008, she thought she was preparing to work in a physician’s office. Instead, Carolyn has a related job. She is the office manager of the Harrisonburg location of Beltone Heating Aid Center. When asked about her work, she begins by laughing: “When I got here, there was no computer, and they were still using a rolodex for patient contact information.”
Carolyn’s Audiologist Manager told her that he hired her largely because of the breadth of her education at National College. Since beginning her job in July, Carolyn has helped the office purchase their first computer, converted their records to electronic format, and has begun to update the office into the 21st century. She says there is still a great deal more that she would like to do and is capable of doing, so she has great plans.
Carolyn also enjoys working with the patients, who in turn, seem to enjoy interacting with her as well. Carolyn represents her company well with her excellent patient care skills.
The company, including her manager, has been very good to her, Carolyn says. In fact, she has been offered a chance to train as an audiologist through Beltone with the aim of ultimately doing the hearing testing in the Harrisonburg office. She is proud of what she has accomplished so far and that her performance and commitment have been recognized. Even though it’s not what she anticipated, it’s been an excellent work experience.
