Hands on Work

When Joshua Halstead’s company, Wrangler, shut down in August of 2005, he was out of a job. His mother, who also worked there, got grant money and enrolled in National College. He found another job which didn’t last long and then began working for Wal-Mart in maintenance and unloading trucks. All this time, his mother kept urging him to check out National College.
Finally, he did. With a friend and co-worker, Josh enrolled at National in 2007 in the Information Systems Engineering program. He chose this program because he had always been fascinated by computers and video games. Joshua (pictured) resigned from Wal-Mart in January of 2008 and began working as a federal work-study student on the Harrisonburg campus maintaining computers at the campus. He graduates in May, next year, with an associate degree but is already pursuing a job lead in his field. His work-study job has given him some important hands-on experience and will make his job search much easier.
