Pinning Ceremony

On August 16th, the first annual Pinning Ceremony for Surgical Technologists occurred at the Harrisonburg Campus. The ceremony commenced with the procession of students leading into the beautifully decorated dining hall to classical music. Words of encouragement and commendation were expressed by the Campus Director Jack Ekey and Surgical Technology Director Jemila Early. Jemila also recited a poem dedicated to the students’ achievements. Following the pinning of each student, the students recited the Association of Surgical Technologist (AST) Code of Ethics in unison. The ceremony was followed with a reception for family and friends.
A special congratulations went to Brenda Funkhouser who recently accepted a job as a surgical technologist. The family and friends of each student were able to view the letters of recommendation from hospital personnel on display. Within a year, each surgical technology student at the Harrisonburg campus has transitioned from an unassuming lay person to a knowledgeable professional in the field of surgery. Jemila says she is very proud of their accomplishments and wishes them future success.
