Air Emergency Responders

On July 31st, students in the medical program at the Danville, Kentucky Campus were thrilled with the opportunity to get a hands-on view of the new Air Evac Lifeteam (AEL) medical helicopter. Eric Townsend, Flight RN, and Mike Siggers, Flight Paramedic, explained and demonstrated how to give critical and medical care while in the air. Students learned that the flight nurses and the paramedics have to go through a rigorous training and mock disasters before they are considered for the team. They also learned that the AEL pilots are retired military pilots.
AEL has air medical bases across 12 states including Danville, Kentucky which was added in the beginning of July in association with Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. The team serves a ten county radius in central Kentucky. For more information about AEL, see their website www.lifeteam.net.
