Tools and Tips for the Entrepreneur

Cincinnati Campus Career Center DirectorOlivia de Roziere (center) recently polled business administration graduates and learned that many aspire to own a business. After doing a little investigative work, Olivia learned that Sheila Mixon (right) from the Business Coach at Urban League of Greater Cincinnati and her colleague, Sharon Stengel (left), would be a good resource for entrepreneurs. They offered to do a three-hour intensive workshop at the campus on Thursday, November 13th.
Olivia said the response was enthusiastic. “I kept an ongoing list of interested parties since July, when Sheila and I had our initial discussion, and most of those folks were among the participants.” Held in one of campus’s computer classrooms, the Urban League presented a concise, detailed PowerPoint presentation, “Tools and Tips for the Successful Entrepreneur,” on the ten-step process used to determine the viability of a new business. The ten steps are centered on developing business, marketing and financial plans, as well as doing market research and identifying key resources to get a new business off the ground. Also, there was plenty of discussion about the pitfalls; what to look for when determining the long-range effectiveness of a particular business plan.
The Urban League of Greater Cincinnati has expressed a willingness to offer this particular workshop on a quarterly basis. Based on the level of interest in our current student population, we are confident that this program can become part of an on-going in-service offering – another way to impact our students in a positive way!
