Back to School Bash

The Charlottesville Campus hosted its 2nd annual Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 16th at Washington Park and Pool. The community’s support of this event was amazing! It was obvious many had been waiting for this day to come. While the Bash didn’t begin until 11am, people began filling the park at 9am. Parents and children eagerly awaited to receive bags of school supplies, enjoy free swimming, and eat lots of good food from Raising Canes. Popular radio personality Cle Logan with 92.7 KISS FM, and Wilford Wilson provided entertainment with a radio remote at the Bash. Campus DirectorKimberly Moore, PhD was able to speak live to the radio listeners about National College and the Bash.
The City of Charlottesville and the surrounding counties were ‘littered’ with flyers and posters about the Bash. With National College faculty, staff, and students, and advertising and announcements from radio, TV stations, magazines, newspapers, and word-of-mouth, it seemed almost everyone in town had heard about the event. Within the first hour and a half, almost 400 people packed the park. Seventeen exhibitors from various organizations and businesses also came out to support the Bash. Girl Scouts Skyline Council, Hope
Community Center, State Farm Insurance Company, Optima Health, Charlottesville Adult Learning Center and AIDS Services Group are just some of the organizations who lined the park to share information and giveaways with the adults and distribute school supplies to the children. To no one’s surprise, everything went fast!
In addition to the school supplies, swimming, food and music, many came out to register for a chance to win one of more than 20 prizes including our grand prize, a 26” color television set from Best Buy. Congratulations to student Nicole Douglas for winning the coveted grand prize. Thanks to everyone that
helped to make the Back to School Bash successful!
