We Love BUGS
With help from the College’s Community Relations Fund, the Bluefield Campus partnered with Kiwanis of Bluefield, Virginia to co-sponsor the BUGs (Bringing Up Grades) program which motivates students to bring up at least one grade and maintain all others. Graham Intermediate School was selected by the Kiwanis for participation. Certificates were awarded to the children with a sticker saying “I love BUGs.” Over forty students received public recognition for bringing up grades while several parents and fellow students were there to show support. Three children (one child from third, fourth, and fifth grades) were the recipients of gift cards by random drawing to Ryan’s restaurant. While pride shone through the faces of those who brought up grades, the excitement for the prizes won was unbridled.
