"My History"
In sync with the theme of her American History class, "My History is American History," Instructor Cathy Ginn assigned her students a project to either write an essay about one significant ancestor or make a poster that displayed his/her family tree. If students chose to do the family tree, she required them to create it in his or her choice of creative ways such as based on educational status, geographical regions, occupations, religions, or military service. For example, one poster displayed an outline of a large house and inside the walls were written many names. Cathy said that the students did an excellent job, “I feel that they began to more deeply realize that their ancestors played a significant part in building this country.” The posters were displayed in the hallway of the campus for everyone to view.
