Where Everybody Knows Your Name
Talitha (Tally) Webb, one of the Indianapolis Campus’s first graduates from the surgical technology program, enjoys her job as a surgical technologist at Westview Hospital. It’s certainly a far cry from her previous job managing a video store. With 20-25 surgeries per week – more during peak times – Tally’s job always keeps her on her toes.
This was just the sort of change for the better Tally was hoping for when she visited the campus for the first time a little over two years ago. She credits her admissions representative with giving her the little extra encouragement she needed. National’s personal touch and small-college atmosphere were important. “You walk down the hall and know the majority of people that you pass,” she said, adding, “The teachers know you by your first name.”
With the support of great instructors, and the knowledge that someone was ready and willing to help any time she had a question or problem, Tally would recommend National to anyone. “I just enjoyed it all,” she confessed. Truth be told, she has been working on her sisters to attend National, and even convinced her sister-in-law to enroll.
Tally had the attitude and dedication she needed to succeed, and her National education got her in the door to her new career in the medical field. At the conclusion of her coursework, she entered into the capstone experience for all surgical technology students: the externship. “I went into the externship knowing I needed to get experience wherever I could,” she said. Her externship went so well that she was hired by the hospital in June, and she loves her job. How does it compare to her previous career in retail? “Being in a professional environment is a lot better.”
