Politics As Usual

Politics is a daily affair at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics – the office of world-renowned political analyst Larry Sabato. The programs and activities of the center have a profound influence on government and politics in the United States, and at no time is that more evident that during the current presidential election. And at the center of it all is our own Jennifer Page, a 2006 National College graduate, who began working as the Office Manager and Fiscal Administrator while still enrolled as a student at the Charlottesville Campus.
Jennifer was always a hard-working and focused student. As a result, one of her instructors took it upon herself to help Jennifer find a job that would allow her to utilize the skills and training she was receiving at National College. Mary Brown, CFO for the Center for Politics, was instrumental in having her hired for the position. With her recommendation and the skills and training Jennifer was receiving at National College, Jennifer was offered the job. To no one’s surprise, she gladly accepted this exciting opportunity that was presented to her. She felt her career was really beginning to move in the right direction.
However, it took Jennifer some time before she actually decided to enroll. Taking that first step toward pursuing your education is often the toughest decision of all. When she finally came in to meet with an admissions representative, she knew National was the place for her. When asked what it was that made her decide to enroll, Jennifer replied, “Immediately I could sense the friendliness of the staff.”
With degrees in Business Management and Computer Applications, Jennifer credits much of what she is able to do as Office Manager and Fiscal Administrator with the computer programs she learned as a student. “The computer skills I learned at National College come in handy now that I have to complete reports on a regular basis,” she says. More than three years later, Jennifer is an office manager and coordinates the various functions of 16 employees. She also often assists with political events. She feels very blessed to be where she is in her career and is thankful for the education she received at National College.
