It's Not “Just Like” Family
Sometimes, it is family. At least it was in the case of Pikeville Campus graduate Ashley Newsom (right), whose admissions representative was her aunt, Chasity Justice. "She was at my house one day, and I had just moved back from South Carolina, where I had lived for three years," recalls Ashley. "I was wanting a job - not just any kind of job, but a good job - and she was telling me about National College, and their programs." The "Career in a Year" diploma programs were appealing to Ashley, who did not want to spend a long time in school. Chasity adds, "The fact that I'd enroll my own niece showed how much I believe in National and its programs." Later, as Community Resource Coordinator, Chasity was able to use some of her connections with the medical center to help Ashley get her job.
Ashley works as a Billing Clerk for Pikeville Medical Center, billing insurance companies and posting payment information. In this role, she finds not only her medical coding and billing knowledge useful, but also the computer skills that are a part of every National College curriculum. "I use my computer all day long," she says. "It's how we process payments and put them in the system." Ashley credits her favorite instructor, Kristie Johnson (also a National graduate), with preparing her for the workforce. "She was my favorite because she really knew what she was doing," says Ashley. "She helped you understand more about it...because that's what she did, and she was just really good at it."
