Accomplishing Goals

Jackie McVey graduated from the Bristol Campus in May 2008 and accomplished her personal goal…twice. Her goal was to earn a college degree. Last year, she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration -accounting and just a couple years prior she earned an associate degree in accounting also.
Prior to attending National, Jackie was working in the accounting field but she didn’t have a degree. She knew that employers were increasingly looking to hire people with degrees which put her at a disadvantage for advancement. This is when Jackie set a personal goal to get a degree.
While attending National, Jackie developed friendships with her classmates and instructors. She especially enjoyed award-winning accounting instructor Latika Roy who would take time to explain things at the students’ level. She said National was “just an all around good experience.”
“The work here is a step up from what I was doing before. I’m sure the degree helped.”
It was important to Jackie that she graduate with high honors and she worked very hard to do so. She said it was a struggle at times, especially in the beginning, balancing a full-time work schedule, going to school, and doing homework but she eventually fell into a comfortable routine.
She is now working as a payroll analyst processing paychecks for 195 employees every week. She also maintains Excel spreadsheets for budgets, forecasts, and month-end closings. “The work here is a step up from what I was doing before. I’m sure the degree helped.”
Jackie’s new goals include teaching and doing freelance work in book-keeping and taxes. With her history of achieving goals, we know nothing can stop her!
