Former Auto Industry Worker Chooses National for New Career

It all started when a friend told Gina Marek about National College. Gina was considering taking a buyout from Delphi where she worked on the line assembling 13,000 clips per day for automotive wiring harnesses. When she started that job she told herself that she could throw out her résumé, that she was set until retirement age.

After 13 years on the line, however, Delphi had some hard times, and Gina either had to write a new résumé or go to school. She realized she didn’t want a minimum wage job without any ability to move into a better position. With no computer skills, Gina researched going to school and was happy to discover that she was eligible for the Trade Adjustment Act. A friend helped Gina contact National College and get the process started. Gina was very happy with the efficiency of the admissions and financial planning departments in getting all of her paperwork done so that she could start school quickly.

You must have an education— end of discussion

Gina is a Business Administration - -Accounting program major in her third term and wants to work with loans and investments, perhaps in a financial institution. Her husband is proud of her and both parents tell their six-year-old daughter that “you must have an education—end of discussion.” Gina says that she didn’t have the means to go to college when she was graduating from high school, but is ready now to do it. She encourages everyone to try National College; “you won’t feel intimidated” because of the small class size and positive environment. Gina says that another advantage of National College is that the instructors give her an education for the “real world”. Gina believes that an associate degree in a field that’s always in demand will be helpful in getting a new career in the Youngstown area.
