Daphne Hall graduated from the Memphis Campus in the summer of 2008, and almost immediately returned to National College—as an employee. Daphne has been a Community Resource Coordinator for the Memphis Campus since September, and really enjoys her work. “Going out and getting the opportunity to meet and network, and form relationships with the community and different organizations…that’s the best part of my job,” she says.
A former Head Start teacher and consultant for the private childcare industry, Daphne knows very well the importance of education at every stage of life. She’s most proud of the connections she has made with her former employer, Shelby County government, where she has often returned to speak to parents of Head Start children about the advantages of a National College education. Being able to relate those experiences firsthand is a real benefit to her work.
Within the next five years, I’d like to be an instructor here at National…and running my own business
Daphne found National’s focused business curriculum valuable, including important career support courses not always found at other colleges. “Presenting—standing up and doing presentations, PowerPoints,” she says, referring to her Oral Communications class. “No matter what your profession is, you never know when you may have to give presentations.” She also finds her computer skills valuable and appreciates the fact that all of National’s programs emphasize computer use.
Graduating with a GPA of 3.31, Daphne also received a $1,000 Joseph E. Hurn Academic Performance Scholarship from National College in recognition of her excellent grades. Not content to rest on her laurels, Daphne has gone on to pursue a bachelor’s degree, and plans to begin work on a master’s degree as soon as she finishes her bachelor’s program.
