Big Plans

Sandra Greer, a February 2008 graduate from the Martinsville Campus with an associate degree in business administration–management, works as a store manager for a national fast-food chain. While a nice achievement in and of itself, it’s not the end of her career story by any means. “I’ve got big plans…this is just a stepping stone.”
I’ve got big plans…this is just a stepping stone
Sandra came to National at a crossroads in her life. Having recently gotten a divorce, she had two kids at home and was running her own photography business part-time. “I really wanted something that would benefit me,” she said, referring to her education. “But I didn’t want something that would take away from my business, either.” National’s flexible class schedules fit the bill.
Now she has a degree that has given her the practical skills needed to creatively manage a business–her restaurant has live music every Monday, not something you see at your typical “burger joint”–as well as conduct a successful photography venture on the side. But more than, that, she has a sense of accomplishment.
I wanted an achievement that nobody could take away from me
“My dad was an educator, and I always wanted to go to school,” Sandra explained. “I wanted an achievement that nobody could take away from me.”
