"I am a 38-year old single mom and a recovering stroke patient for the past seven years, and my 12 year-old son has epilepsy. Before starting here at National College, I had been married and had gone back to work as a computer technician. After my divorce I had no future ahead of me except welfare. I was determined to raise my son as a working and successful mother, and teach him to set goals and strive to reach them.
I was on welfare briefly when I was divorced, but then decided I had to do something and education was what I needed. I was unsure where to begin or what to study, so I looked into a few options. National College was exactly what I needed, because of the length of the programs, the small classes, the intense atmosphere of the instructors, and the understanding mentality for working and single parents. What I found were wonderful and exciting opportunities that would challenge me and fulfill me as well.
I was terrified of failure at my age and abilities, but I was also eager to begin and set my future in motion. I started the Medical Transcription program, and hope to continue studies in Medical Billing & Coding as well.
I have maintained a 4.0 grade point average and I now am a capable, proud, and productive woman. I carry myself with pride and confidence. I no longer look down on myself and think a bad situation is impossible to resolve. My son had a great deal of fear for our future, but now feels secure that we will be fine.
You cannot know how everyone here at National College has made such a tremendous impact for the better on my life. I never thought of myself as successful, but now I know that I can be and will be, in whatever endeavor I undertake.
I am a brand new person for stepping out and taking a chance on National College being the place for me."
